Round 2 of the 2018 MotoGP season brought the crowd back to Doffo Winery for another viewing party as the series headed to our home country of Argentina. This is always a special race for us, and indeed Marcelo took the opportunity to travel down south to partake in the festivities in person!
All weekend long we were treated to photos and video clips showing Marcelo’s exploits around Termas de Rio Hondo, including access to a VIP box, some high profile run-ins, and track access.
But on Sunday, April 8 as the group of riders and race fans gathered to the MotoDoffo Barrel Room, they were treated to yet another special event-within-an-event: live painting by Makoto Endo.
Makoto Endo is well known in the motorcycle world, and if you’ve been to any of the IMS shows and other smaller shows around the country, then you might have seen Endo there working his magic. This Japanese artist now lives in New York and seems to have an unquenchable translate beautiful motorcycles into his unique artistic style.
Using only chopsticks and ink, Makoto transformed a blank canvas into a striking and bold rendition of Marcelo’s prized 1947 Gilera Saturno Sport. Watching him work was mesmerizing, and over the course of two days his vision came to life before our eyes.
This artwork is destined to be featured on one of our upcoming bottles of MotoDoffo wine, continuing our artist series theme that began with this year’s labels designed by Robert Carter. We can’t wait to share this collaboration of art, motorcycles and wine with all of you!
Did we mention that the racing in Argentina was pretty great? We had a fantastic time watching the action live, and can only imagine what it was like for Marcelo to witness the excitement in person. Next up the series comes to the States for the Grand Prix of the Americas at Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
